How to Calculate Crypto Liquidation Price
When you open a leveraged position, the exchange requires you to maintain a minimum margin balance called the maintenance margin. If the market moves against your position and your margin falls to this minimum, the exchange forcibly closes your position — this is called liquidation, and you lose your entire margin.
The liquidation price formula depends on your position direction. For a long position:
Higher leverage means your liquidation price is much closer to your entry price, leaving almost no room for normal market fluctuation before you are liquidated. At 10x leverage on a long, a price drop of roughly 10% wipes your entire margin. At 100x leverage, just a 1% adverse move causes liquidation.
